Alberta Infrastructure (AI) will be expanding the Foothills Medical Centre's existing power plant to support the growth of the hospital, increase the ability of the electrical and heating system, and support the future power needs of the cancer care facility. AI is expanding the existing power plant footprint with a new building that includes the installation of a combustion turbine generator to increase capacity by 8 MW.

Construction Updates
Alberta Infrastructure is entering the final stages of the Foothills Medical Centre cogeneration initiative. There may be planned and unplanned steam releases from mid-March to mid-April as part of commissioning activities. These releases, as well as other commissioning activities, can produce loud, prolonged noise that may be heard some distance from the site. While only a few are expected, we want to ensure the community is aware they may occur. The releases are intended to take places during weekday business hours. It is possible they may occur over weekends as we approach facility in-service.
