Alberta’s government is moving ahead with much needed improvements to Alberta’s busiest highway that will reduce the time people spend in traffic and help move goods more efficiently.Since the 1970s, Calgary’s population has doubled and traffic volumes continue to increase. Today, Deerfoot Trail is a major north-south freeway in Calgary. It is also the busiest road in Alberta, serving more than 180,000 vehicles per day.Improvements are required to increase capacity to handle current and future projected traffic volumes. The work is being completed through several contracts and prioritizes areas where improvements can be feasibly delivered which will make the most impact. Construction is anticipated to take several construction seasons.
