Heidelberg Materials is proposing to build a Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage hub near its facility near Edmonton. The facility will capture more than 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually from its Edmonton cement production facility and the combined heat and power facility that is integrated with the capture process.

A MOU was signed between the proponent and the Government of Canada on April 5, 2023. . Emissions Reduction Alberta previously awarded $1.4M as part of the pre-feasibility study for the project.
