The Edmonton International Airport will see its cargo handling space expanded and new infrastructure added, as part of it's International Cargo Hub Project (Phase 1).
This first phase will prepare approximately 150 acres for future cargo operations and includes site work, paving, outdoor lighting, new airside infrastructure such as a section of taxiway parallel to Runway 12-30, parking aprons for large cargo planes, a new Field Electrical Centre and electrical utilities for airfield lighting, airside service roads, and advanced stormwater management systems. Groundside improvements will feature new roadways, traffic management, street lighting, and site preparation for future development lots.
The project will help increase the amount of cargo that moves through Edmonton's airport and strengthen distribution networks with the rest of Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.
The Federal government announced $100M in funding on July 21, 2022 as part of the National Trade Corridors Fund.
