The Bow Valley Carbon Hub is a commercial Carbon Capture and Underground Storage (CCUS) project designed to capture and permanently sequester carbon dioxide emissions from industrial facilities in the Bow Valley region. The initial phase focuses on the Inter Pipeline Cochrane Extraction Plant, capturing approximately 40,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
The captured CO₂ is compressed and transported via a short pipeline to a sequestration well drilled approximately 4 kilometers deep into a saline aquifer. Pore space tenure was awarded by the Government of Alberta in 2022 through a competitive bidding process. Drilling of the sequestration well began in late 2025.
