The Polaris Carbon Capture project would have capacity to store up to 300 million tonnes of carbon over its lifetime from Shell's Scotford refinery and chemical plant in Strathcona County.The first phase of the project will capture and store 750,000 tonnes of carbon a year and create up to 2,000 jobs.Shell said it will make a final investment decision in 2023. Operations would start in the mid-2020s if approved. The project was announced in July 2021.
